A Cape
Cod Vacation Has Much To Offer
Every summer, crowds of American tourists
descend on the Massachusetts resort of Cape Cod. The peninsula has an
abundance of great beaches and the temperate climate makes for a long
season. Many people take a Cape Cod vacation to indulge their particular
hobby or just to relax. It's famous for its antique shops, ice cream
parlors and its many seafood restaurants. Visitors going by air usually
arrive at Logan International airport in Boston or T.F.Greene Airport
near Providence, Rhode Island. There is a wide range of accommodation
available from luxury hotels to inexpensive bed and breakfast lodgings.
Some tourists visit in late spring or early fall, when prices are
cheaper.
There is plenty to do and see here. Bobbing round on a sail boat is a
great way to see the coastline and water sports devotees are well
catered for. There are scenic paths to hike through or you can rent a
bike and go bike trailing. It's a favorite spot for freshwater and sea
fishing, and there are numerous first class golf courses. There are also
miniature golf and go karting circuits. A Cape Cod vacation would not be
the same without a visit to a lighthouse. There are several working
lighthouses and they are so associated with this strip of coast. Severe
storms do blow up from time to time and many a sailor is glad of them.
The Cape Cod National Seashore is a popular tourist attraction, with six
swim friendly beaches, sand dunes and freshwater ponds to explore. There
are also eleven nature trails. Provincetown is the center to book a
whale watching trip. It's almost a certainty that a whale will be
sighted during a Cape Cod vacation and it will probably be a humpback,
sei or finback whale.
There are many pretty towns and scenic spots on the island. Barnstable
town and surrounding villages have lovely harbors and beaches. Hyannis
village has a John F. Kennedy Memorial tribute, the Kennedy family
having vacationed on nearby Martha's Vineyard for many years. There is
also the theatre in the round here, called Cape Cod Melody Tent. Dennis
is the town known as the cultural area for a Cape Cod vacation, with its
many craft shops and the Cape Cod Museum of Art. There is also summer
theatre at the Cape Playhouse and an arts festival. Wellfleet is also
worth a visit, particularly for Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, which
organizes cruises, tours, bird walks and lectures. The local attraction,
Uncle Tim's Bridge is beloved of artists and photographers and has
hiking trails round the salt marsh.
